Rome, Dec. 6 (LaPresse) – "With inflation now under control, employment at record highs, and higher disposable income, household consumption – which between 2019 and 2025 remained weak, growing only 0.8% – could improve in December, also thanks to strong sales during Black Week (turnover of €5 billion, +20% compared to last year)." This is highlighted in an analysis by the Confcommercio Research Office on Christmas bonuses and December consumption. According to the report, the total Christmas bonuses allocated for consumption in December will amount to €49.9 billion (+€2.4 billion compared to 2024), with average spending per household of €1,964 (+€53 compared to 2024).

However, only a small portion of this increase will translate into higher spending on Christmas gifts, which will remain largely in line with last year (€211 per capita vs. €210), because Italians are expected to spend more on themselves – buying new appliances, dining out, going to the cinema or theater, visiting museums, or focusing on personal well-being. Overall, total spending on gifts this year will reach €10.1 billion – the highest since 2020 – and more people will give gifts compared to last Christmas: 81.5% will participate (up from 79.9% last year). While fewer people plan a modest Christmas (down from 77.1% to 72.7%), more are willing to spend joyfully (up from 44.4% to 47.8%), confirming the enduring “magic” of the holiday season.
