Former Ilva, Palombella (Uilm): ‘Death plan presented, everything at a standstill since 1 March’

Rome, 19 November (LaPresse) – "Yesterday we went to Palazzo Chigi with an attitude of respect for the institutions. We imagined we had been summoned because they wanted to reconsider the eight slides. We were presented with a proposal: 1,550 workers will undergo training instead of receiving redundancy payments. Since March, we have been asking how many workers will be employed. There was some back and forth, but in the end, it turned out to be a death sentence: from 1 March, all the plants will be closed." This was stated by Uilm Secretary General Rocco Palombella at a press conference with Fim and Fiom Secretaries Ferdinando Uliano and Michele De Palma. “We weren't exaggerating,” Palombella emphasised. “This is how things stand: they will carry on for a few months and take on training. But what for, if the factories are closed? Everything will close on 1 March. When we asked for this plan to be withdrawn, they said it was out of the question, because if no buyers have been found in two years…”.
