Milan, Oct. 14 (LaPresse) – In 2024, just over 2.2 million families are estimated to be in absolute poverty in Italy; the incidence, equal to 8.4% of all resident families, is substantially stable compared to 2023. Individuals in absolute poverty number over 5.7 million (9.8% of all residents), in line with last year’s estimates. This was reported by Istat. The incidence of absolute poverty among families with at least one foreigner is 30.4%, rising to 35.2% in families made up exclusively of foreigners, while falling to 6.2% for families composed solely of Italians. The incidence of relative poverty among families, at 10.9%, is similarly stable compared to 2023 (it was 10.6%), involving over 2.8 million families. Relative poverty among individuals is up slightly, reaching 14.9% (from 14.5% in 2023), involving more than 8.7 million people.
