Milan, 22 August (LaPresse) – ‘For years, the European Union believed that its economic size, with 450 million consumers, brought with it geopolitical power in international trade relations. This year will be remembered as the year when this illusion evaporated. We had to resign ourselves to tariffs imposed by our largest trading partner and long-standing ally, the United States’said Mario Draghi at the Rimini Meeting, during the debate ‘What horizon for Europe?’ Draghi is the author of the report ‘The Future of European Competitiveness,’ written on behalf of the European Commission. Draghi was greeted with thunderous and prolonged applause before he began his speech. Draghi thanked the audience before beginning to speak.
