Ex Ilva, Confindustria pleased with agreement: "Now a real relaunch"

Rome, August 12 (LaPresse) – Confindustria expresses "satisfaction with the agreement" on the former Ilva of Taranto reached at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy. "Now," says Confindustria president Emanuele Orsini, "we need decarbonization and a real relaunch."
"We acknowledge that an agreement has been reached with all parties involved, and we are pleased because today the decision was made not to close Ilva," Orsini notes. "We have already stated that Ilva is a strategic asset for the country, both for the territory and for Italian industry. We appreciate the agreement and hope it will be respected and completed, maintaining some firm boundaries."
"First," continues Orsini, "decarbonization must be achieved, out of respect for the inhabitants of the territory and for the industry. Second, there must be sector investors capable of a real and competitive relaunch, nationally and internationally. The third element is that—within the decarbonization solution—there must be the proper and essential focus on DRI plants for feeding the new electric furnaces, which is an absolute necessity for national industry and the country’s strategic autonomy."
"I want to conclude by emphasizing a crucial final aspect, which is the supply chain and employment levels," Orsini adds. "It is important that throughout the relaunch process due consideration is given to the many small companies and suppliers linked to Ilva and its future, as well as to the thousands of workers involved in this matter."
