Milan, July 29 (LaPresse) – In 2024, the European Union produced 3.3 billion litres of ice cream, marking a 2% increase compared to 2023 (3.2 billion litres). Germany remained the EU’s top ice cream producer with 607 million litres in 2024, followed by France (501 million litres) and Italy (492 million litres). Other major producers included Spain (378 million litres) and Poland (298 million litres). Compared to 2023, among these five EU countries, only Poland recorded a significant rise in production, with a +29% increase. France saw a drop of 12%, Italy 7%, Spain 6%, and Germany a slight decrease of 1%. In 2024, EU countries exported 265.3 million kilograms of ice cream to non-EU countries and imported 69.3 million kilograms. Export volumes rose by only 1% from 2023 (+2.8 million kg), while extra-EU imports grew significantly by 24% (+13.6 million kg). As in previous years, France was the leading ice cream exporter in the EU, with 55.9 million kilograms exported to non-EU countries in 2024 — accounting for one-fifth of total extra-EU ice cream exports (21%). Italy followed with 42.6 million kg (16%), then the Netherlands (31.9 million kg, 12%), Germany (28.2 million kg, 11%), and Belgium (27 million kg, 10%).
