Milan, May 13 (LaPresse) – The cyber threat in Italy is constantly growing and becoming increasingly sophisticated. According to the Annual Report to Parliament by the National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN), in 2024 the CSIRT (Computer Security Incident Response Team) handled 1,979 cyber events—an average of 165 per month. Among these, 573 incidents had confirmed impact.

Compared to 2023, the number of events rose by 40% and incidents nearly doubled (+90%). Prevention and awareness activities have played a key role: over the past year, ACN sent more than 53,000 alerts to monitored entities to flag potential breaches or risk factors, and published several documents aimed at increasing awareness of cyber threats and facilitating information exchange.

The agency also intervened on several occasions to support victims (2,734 in total, including 1,260 unique entities), helping to restore services that are often essential to the public.
