Amazon drivers strike across Italy over contract and safety issues

Milan, 18 April (LaPresse) – Amazon drivers went on a national strike today, downing tools across Italy after talks to renew their collective agreement broke down. In Milan, several dozen delivery drivers took part in a protest organised by Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl and Uiltrasporti outside Amazon Logistics' headquarters in Via Vincenzo Toffetti, displaying a banner reading “Jeff, less space and more drivers”. “We are here for the renewal of the national labour contract and to demand safe working conditions,” said Vittorio Raffele, one of the protesting drivers. ‘Some routes have unsustainable workloads. When it rains or there is a weather alert, going out on motorbikes or cargo vehicles is too dangerous, and on top of that, the company does not want to pay us the right compensation for travel. The negotiations have broken down twice, which is why we are here today’.
