Rome, March 26 (LaPresse) – “I thank the workers of the Italian State Railways and the half a billion travelers who, in 2024 alone, chose our country's trains: a record number, never seen before, and an absolute increase compared to the past,” said Infrastructure and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini during the question time in the Chamber of Deputies. “The railways are experiencing a unique historical moment, with over 1,200 construction sites open,” and “the highest number of trains in circulation, exceeding 10,000,” he noted. “According to data provided by the FS group, in the first two months of 2025, punctuality stands at 80.9% for high-speed trains, 89.3% for intercity trains, and 91.3% for regional trains.” Regarding refunds, “the time thresholds for delays associated with the obligation to provide compensation have been established by the FS group in accordance with European Regulation No. 782 of 2021” and “it is not possible to foresee automatic compensation that does not require a passenger’s request.” However, Trenitalia, “with an additional effort, has implemented a system based on artificial intelligence,” and so far, nearly 200,000 claims have been processed.
