Automotive: Nissan, Honda, and Mitsubishi Definitively Abandon Merger

Tokyo (Japan), February 13 (LaPresse/AP) – Japanese automakers Honda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi announced today that they have abandoned negotiations for a corporate integration.

The three companies have decided to terminate their agreement to evaluate a potential collaboration, according to a joint statement.

Honda and Nissan had announced in December the start of talks to create a common holding company, while Mitsubishi had stated it was considering joining the group.

From the outset, analysts were skeptical about the benefits of the initiative, given that the companies' model lineups overlap significantly.
