Milan, Feb. 6 (LaPresse) – About 100 people are present at the presidium convened by unions and workers at Barry Callebaut in Verbania, which began at 2:30 p.m. The Belgian chocolate company communicated months ago its intention to close its plant in Intra, Verbania, putting more than 150 families at risk: since then, tables have been held with the Ministry and the Region, and for the past ten days bargaining between the company and unions has begun for the official start of the layoff procedure. CISL union representatives and workers have deemed the company's proposals “inadmissible,” considered even inferior to the proposals made by Barry Callebaut at other closures. That is why as of Monday, Feb. 3, workers have halted production at the plant until a date to be determined. Banners in the square show a drawn coffin, with the words 'dignity of the workers' next to it.
