Rome, 11 March (LaPresse) – The file sent by the Sion public prosecutor's office to its counterpart in Rome reveals a figure that sums up the scale of the tragedy at the Constellation in Crans-Montana: 164 people were present at the venue and only eight managed to escape unharmed. The Swiss public prosecutor's investigation has identified nine people under investigation, who are being called upon to answer in various capacities for allegations of arson, manslaughter and negligent injury. The number of people present was reconstructed by the cantonal police through a detailed analysis of the images recovered from the video surveillance system. The checks show that when the flames began to spread, 132 people were in the basement, the most crowded area of the premises. According to a report by the municipal safety officer dated June 2019, the bar was authorised to accommodate a maximum of 100 people in the basement and 50 on the upper floor. At the time of the fire, therefore, the underground spaces were well over the specified limits.
